Rare, California Wine Association Vintage Broadside

This is a coveted image by collectors of California Wine History. This was a broadside produced in 1905 to promote the California Wine Association or Calwa which was a cartel style organization with intent to control wine prices and to reorganize the California wine industry. Eventually,CALWA became the most important binding wine force that changed the history of the Wine Industry in California, controlling 80% plus of all wine distribution of California wines before Prohibition. Their 40 acre facility at Point Molate in Richmond, California called “WINEHAVEN” was an incredible factor in the California wine distribution wine marketplace with shipping facility on San Francisco Bay to the world. Prohibition, in 1920, put an end to the inertia it had gained. 22” X 27”

Whetstone

Large, natural, whetstone tool sharpening wheel and stand. This one was belt driven, although, originally it may have had a hand worked wheel. It is in remarkable condition with most of the stone still there. Made of wood, cast iron and natural stone. Very common in the day; this was the tool you went for to stay sharp! 43”H X36”L X 35” wheel diameter. Circa 1910 - 1930s. Petaluma found.
